Retail volume up 0.1 percent in eurozone in July
BRUSSELS, Sept. 4 () -- Retail sales rose 0.1 percent month to month in July in the eurozone and 0.2 percent in the European Union, the data office Eurostat said Wednesday.From July 2012, retail sales dropped 1.3 percent in the 17-member currency union. Sales declined 0.3 percent in the larger European Union from June 2012, Eurostat said.The EU is a 28-member region that included 27 members in June,[url=http://www.pradaoutletuks.co.uk]prada shoes men[/url], as Croatia joined on July 1. The eurozone, the smaller region, includes 17 members that share the euro as currency.From month to month, food, drinks and tobacco sales rose 1 percent in the eurozone and 1.1 percent in the EU. Sales fell 0.4 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively, in the currency region and in the EU in non-food retail, the data office said.Among reporting countries, retail sales fell in eight countries and rose in 14. The highest increases were in Luxembourg with sales up 17.7 percent and Malta with sales up 6 percent. In Lithuania, sales rose 5.9 percent month to month.The largest declines were in Slovenia, Spain and Portugal, with decreases of 6.4 percent, 5.5 percent and 2.2 percent, Eurostat said.
