While she was in college, she visited her family who had gone to live in California. It had been there that she met Neta Snook Southern, pioneer aviator, who later taught Amelia how to fly. Additionally they became friends. <br />Her solo Atlantic flight made her a high profile - a Ny tickertape parade when she returned to America. She later started to arrange for an around-the-world flight,<a href="http://parajumpersoutletjackets.webmium.com/" target="_blank" class="postlink"><span style="font-weight: bold">parajumpers outlet</span></a>, as well as in 1937, on her behalf second attempt, actually began by flying to Puerto Rico. Born in Atchison, Kansas in 1897, Amelia Earhart didn't begin flying until after her move to California in 1920. After taking lessons from aviation pioneer Neta Snook in a Curtiss Jenny, Earhart attempted to break flying records, breaking the women altitude records in 1922. Earhart continually promoted women in aviation as well as in 1928 was invited to become the first women to fly across the Atlantic. Accompanying pilots Wilmer Stultz and Louis Gordon as a passenger about the Fokker Friendship, Earhart became a global celebrity following the completion of the flight. In May 1932 Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across in the Atlantic. In 1935 she completed the very first solo flight from Hawaii to California. Meanwhile Earhart continued to promote aviation and helped found the group, the Ninety-Nines,<a href="http://peutereyjacketsuppliers.webmium.com/" target="_blank" class="postlink"><span style="font-weight: bold">peuterey womens jacket</span></a>, an organization focused on female aviators. On June 1, 1937, Earhart and navigator, Fred Noonan, left Miami, Florida with an all over the world flight. While a great deal of mystery surrounds the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, her contributions to aviation and womens issues have inspired people over 80 years. <br />Due to family problems, Amelia sold her first airplane,<a href="http://parajumpersoutletjackets.webmium.com/" target="_blank" class="postlink"><span style="font-weight: bold">parajumpers vest</span></a>, a Kinner Airstar, moved back East, and took employment as a social worker. In July 1936 she took delivery of the Lockheed 10E "Electra," financed by Purdue University, and started planning her round-the-world flight. <br />Earhart's flight would not be the first one to circle the world, but it would be the longest--29,000 miles, following an equatorial route.
