Google has 35 days to destroy improperly collected data or face courts
LONDON, June 21 () -- A British regulatory body says Google must to delete data "mistakenly collected" while taking pictures for its Street View service or face criminal proceedings.Britain's Information Commissioner's Office, which reopened its investigation into Google last year after further revelations about the data taken from WiFi networks, said Google had 35 days in which to delete any remaining data, the BBC reported Friday.Google, louboutin sale, which had previously promised to destroy all data it had collected, told the ICO last year it had "accidentally" retained some additional discs."Today's enforcement notice strengthens the action already taken by our office, placing a legal requirement on Google to delete the remaining payload data identified last year within the next 35 days and immediately inform the ICO if any further discs are found," Stephen Eckersley, the office's head of enforcement, said."Failure to abide by the notice will be considered as contempt of court, which is a criminal offense."Characterizing the collection of the data in 2010 as "procedural failings and a serious lack of management oversight," the ICO said accepted Google's assertion it did not order the actions at a corporate level. The ICO chose not to levy a fine."We co-operated fully with the ICO throughout its investigation, christian louboutin outlet, and having received its order this morning we are proceeding with our plan to delete the data," Google said in a statement Friday.
