The FIFA World Cup Ticketing Centres for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ may have opened their doors at 09h00 this morning but thousands of South Africans across the country arrived well before the doors opened, with overnight queues being reported in all nine Host Cities.
The mood from as early as yesterday evening was jovial as expectant South Africans chatted among themselves about the matches they want to see, kicked footballs in the street and blew their vuvuzelas. At the Sandton FIFA World Cup Ticketing Centre the line snaked along the pavements while the electric vibe grew more intense by the minute.
“This is an incredible and historic day for us. The reality of the World Cup starts today as people with a ticket will actually have a seat in a completed stadium. The only things we are waiting for are the trophy and the teams – it is game on,” said the Chief Executive Officer of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa, Dr Danny Jordaan.
When you buy your ticket to a match you are buying a part of South Africa’s history. You are buying into the future of this countryDr Danny Jordaan
For Jordaan these South Africans are not just buying wholesale cheap jerseys a ticket but something much more.
“When you buy your ticket to a match you are buying a part of South Africa’s history. You are buying into the future of this country.”
At the Sandton ticket centre 19-year-old Mohamed Dadabhay had been queuing since 11h00 the day before just to make sure he got the tickets he wanted. And it seems his planning paid off as he was the first through the doors at 09h00.
“It is the best feeling to be number one in the queue. The World Cup is going to be amazing and people will be going crazy. I love football, that is why I came to queue here so early,” said Dadabhay as he was waiting in the line early this morning.
He eventually emerged from the ticket centre with his prize – three tickets to match 64 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the Final.
“I am so excited I got a ticket to the Final. This is money well spent”.
A little further down the line was Wiseman Cele who had been waiting from 17h00 the previous day. For him the queue was not just a place to wait to get World Cup tickets but a lesson in wholesale underwear what the World Cup can do for South Africa.
“The World Cup will be a great thing for South Africa. It will unite us. I have been standing here with people of all backgrounds and races and we have come together around the World Cup. It is good for us to move forward and unite as a country.”
Johannesburg resident, Shelley Smith was so adamant that she would get her hands on World Cup tickets that her and her husband booked into a hotel down the road from wholesale lingerie the Sandton ticket centre and worked in shifts to wait in the line – earning them a third spot in the queue.
“This is more special than anything before. It is my dream to have a World Cup ticket. I have never been to the Olympics. I have never been to anything this big and to have it in South Africa is amazing.”
As the first ticket hopefuls entered the centre some were carried away with emotion – with shouts of ‘Hallelujah’and Bafana Bafana filling the ticket centre as those around clapped for every new person entering the room.
“Finally, it feels good to have these tickets. I feel very excited. I am a football fan and enjoy soccer. Hopefully this will be one of the best World Cups,” said 30-year-old Ahmed Akhalwaya who joined the ticket line at 13h00 yesterday, eventually picking up tickets to the Semi-Final in Durban as well as the Quarter-Final match at Ellis Park.
Previn Ramsamy, who queued from 02h00 this morning, managed to secure tickets to Italy vs Slovenia and Cote d’Ivoire vs Brazil.
“I am definitely excited. This if the first time in Africa, this is our World Cup and we don’t have to go anywhere to see it. sexy lingerie online I cannot wait. I am over the moon”.
At the ticket centre in Maponya Mall, Soweto, there we similar scenes as World Cup fever quickly spread.
Queues at Maponya mall began as 17h30 yesterday afternoon, as the first ticket buyer, 32 year old Malin Fisher set his camp chair and food supplies down in front of the ticketing centre. After the long wait, Fisher was rewarded with his desired tickets – both the opening match and the Final.
“It was absolutely worth the wait. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it’s happening in my lifetime.”
For Roheet Nagar, the long wait at Maponya mall also paid off as he jubilantly exclaimed that he had secured tickets to see Brazil vs Cote d’Ivoire at Soccer City stadium.
“It’s been a long wait and a long road – but SA here we come,” he said.
