This is to Gary MacKinnon and Sheila Wilcox of the Pictou Country Ground Search and Rescue,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
After reading The News on Dec. 27, I feel I have to let the people of Pictou Country know how the search the Clark family put together to look for their son was conducted. Mr MacKinnon and Ms. Wilcox you may have done your search and for that you are truly THANKED. But to tell a parent to wait until the snow melted,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], what were you thinking? Would you want to be told this if it were your child? One would only hope not.
The head ones who ran the private search may not have been "TRAINED PROFESSIONALS" but they sure handled it a very professional way,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with safety ALWAYS being first. Everyone was put into groups according to their ability and woodsmen skills. No one at any time was let go alone. Everyone had to sign in and out so as not to be left behind. There was plenty of supplies on hand from food, drinks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], extra clothing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], boots,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hats,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], mittens,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], socks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], snow shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], etc.,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], for whoever needed them. There were ski-doos and ATVs there to take searchers back and forth to the school or camp to make sure everyone came out to rest and have a lunch. I know this firsthand as I myself and five of my family members went out on that Saturday.
At no time during this private search was I in "FEAR" that these "UNTRAINED PROFESSIONALS" were "ENDANGERING" themselves. Thankfully we have WONDERFUL "UNTRAINED" people from Pictou Country and surrounding areas who rallied together and chose not to conduct an unprofessional search to bring comfort to the Clark family,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which could not wait until "FAVOURABLE CONDITIONS."
To all who helped you should be VERY PROUD of yourselves for the hard work you've done. It was hard going at times with the deep snow,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but you chose to keep going on. The ones who were out there on Christmas Eve found it very hard returning to their families knowing the Clark family was still missing one of their own. However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with your determination and heartfelt family qualities, this saddened first part of the Clark family's journey has been completed.
