'Walk or wheel in the shoes' diversity event in UQ's Diversity-Week,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]!
This event will be held lunchtime from 1 to 2,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].30pm in the foyer of the social sciences building and will have activities out on the footpath area on tables to encourage passerby's to try the activities as well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The activities set up would simulate physical as well as hidden disabilities such as blindness,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], intellectual impairment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hearing impairment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], speech language problems,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Dyslexia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], physical disability etc.
We will demonstrate and then have participants involved in the 'experience' of using a wheelchair,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], playing touch sensitive games and trying vision glasses and many other simulations etc.
There will be a large canvas and paint and pens and all participants will be able to add a feature to the canvas to form a lasting statement of participation from UQ diversity week 2009,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
This final art piece would then be framed and handed to the university to hang it where they wanted on the campus,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
It aims to encourage others to 'walk in the shoes' of someone from a different background,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with alternate attributes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and abilities than themselves.
It aims to encourage staff and students to link these ideas to their own teaching and learning within the university which promote a deeper understanding of diversity in our University and its wider community,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
