Heroin deals paid for luxury lifestyle,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
During the trial,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Brisbane court heard Versac amassed about $1.1 million through his drug trade,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], using the cash to fund a lavish lifestyle that included luxury cars,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], designer handbags,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], jewellery and holidays.
The court also heard he was originally named Paul Monkman but after a run-in with police in 2005 changed his name to Versac,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so it would sound more like luxury Italian brand Versace.
After his arrest in May 2006,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a police search of Versac's apartment at Spring Hill,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in inner-city Brisbane,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], found a vast quantity of luxury goods,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including jewellery and designer bags,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and a Harley-Davidson motorbike,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the court was told.
Officers also found $10,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 stashed inside a computer and drugs inside the apartment.
A further $653,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 allegedly was found,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], along with Versac's passport, in the ceiling cavity of a Gold Coast townhouse where one of his friends was living.
During sentencing today before Justice Peter Lyons, prosecutor Ben Power said Versac was selling an ounce of heroin about every three days but it was unclear where he was positioned in the drug trade.
"He either would have had to have been a mid-level dealer . who was incredibly active or,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and in the crown's submission,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the inference that a person who has a disposable,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it seems,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], income of $1.14 million is certainly in a position to put themselves higher in the drug supply chain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Mr Power told the court.
