Can I Upgrade to Dual Core

I had been actually informed when I upgrade my BIOS, I can upgrade to a Pentium D. Therefore the best processor I'm able to stick during my system would be a Pentium D 960 3.4Ghz Dual Core. I do not genuinely have the money now to upgrade my system altogether. I was wondering, am i going to experience a good performance increase switching from a P4 650 3.4Ghz single core HT enabled to some P4 D 960 3.4Ghz dual core?
